When I was in elementary school and believed that there was a God, I loved to see things like this during recess. I thought one day that perhaps the spirit of Jesus walked down to Earth on these rare visible rays of sunlight, and would reap the souls of the dead. Afterwards, he would return to the heavens the same way, except trailing behind him would be the weary spirits of men, women, and children moving onto something better.
